Angel Studios’ Sound of Freedom opened on July 4 to an incredible $11.5 million box office take, which nearly topped the amount of tickets sold for Disney’s Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
For its opening day, on July 4, Sound of Freedom reportedly took in $11.5 million. On the other hand, Dial of Destiney earned a slightly higher $11.7 million on Tuesday, according to Deadline. However, it has to be noted that Sound only played in 2,000 theaters while Dial was being shown in more than 4,000 theaters.
That means the Christian-themed film did far, far better than the woke Disney film about an aged archaeologist.

But there is yet another caveat, here. Sound actually outsold Dial because it sold $14.2 million in tickets on Tuesday, but some of those tickets were not for fans in the seats, but were purchased for the studio’s “pay it forward” campaign in which fans buy a ticket for someone else to use in the days ahead (meaning, the bought a ticket to see the movie and bought a second one for someone else to use).

In one day, “Freedom” grossed more the full domestic runs of recent awards contenders like “The Banshees of Inisherin,” “TAR,” and “Women Talking.” Its gross nearly doubles that of current independent hit “Past Lives.”
Sound of Freedom stars Jim Caviezel and Oscar-winner Mira Sorvino. Caviezel plays Tim Ballard, a real-life U.S. government agent who quit his job at Homeland Security to rescue children from drug cartels and sex traffickers in Latin America.
Oddly enough, this film was completed way back in 2018, but when 20th Century Fox, its original studio, was bought up by Disney, the Mouse House shelved the film and refused to distribute it. It took the original producers several years to buy back the rights to their own film, and now they are beating Disney at its own game!
So, it’s a victory all the way around for Sound of Freedom.
