The Strategic Petroleum reserve exists for one reason only — to protect national interests in the event of a crisis.
History has shown us the importance of having a secure national energy source. It’s important in terms of conflict, where fuel played a big role in how WWII played out. It’s also critical in terms of economics, as was discovered both in the energy crisis of the 1970s and, more recently, in the panic Europe faced in the winter following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
That’s why America created the strategic oil reserve in the first place. We needed a fallback source to keep America going in the event of either sort of crisis.
What is was NEVER intended for was to be tapped for political gain… and then left depleted.
That didn’t stop Biden from doing exactly that.
With inflation and fuel prices going WAY up after being jackhammered first by Biden’s war on US energy and later by the markets responding to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Joe Biden had to ‘do something’ to show he cared about Americans getting hammered at the pumps.
So he released a massive load of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to flood the market and bring down prices… just ahead of the midterm election.
The promise was that he would refill it again. Like so many other of his promises, he was selling snake oil. He didn’t replace it. Now, he is made it clear that he has no real intention of doing so.

Let’s contrast that against Schumer BLOCKING Trump’s idea of topping up the Strategic Petroleum Initiative when oil prices cratered during the pandemic… mainly because he opposed Trump as a kneejerk reaction to everything.
On that issue, which of these two presidents looks like he is paying attention to the actual security needs of the country?
As for the reason he’s NOT topping it up again, is it because he’s suddenly become frugal with the taxpayer’s dollar? Or is he afraid of protesters denouncing him in public for turning heretic to his Green New Zeal in supporting Big Oil?
Is he putting pleasing his base ahead of national security?
Imagine the media outrage if they could demonstrate Trump putting his re-election priorities ahead of national security?
But on THIS issue, the media is strangely silent.
