For years, we’ve been warned about the terror ties of UNWRA. But even since the 10/7 attacks, the Biden admin has been reluctant to take them seriously.
Not even a month ago, the White House was strenuously defending UNWRA’s legitimacy.
National Security Council spokesman John Kirby defended the agency, however, when asked if Republicans’ calls to investigate the agency have shifted the administration’s “strategy” regarding the organization. Former President Donald Trump forcibly cut ties with UNRWA in 2018, but the group again began receiving money from the U.S. after President Joe Biden entered office in 2021. Since that time, the U.S. has sent UNRWA more than $700 million.
“The U.N. relief agency does important work. In fact, they’re doing a lot of heavy lifting right now in terms of trying to get food, water, medicine to the people of Gaza all up and down the strip. They’re doing a lot of work, and they’re doing it in harm’s way,” Kirby told reporters. “You can’t hold them accountable for the depredations of Hamas and the way Hamas uses civilian infrastructure, including hospitals, for command and control or storage of weapons for the holding of hostages.
“I’ll let the U.N. speak to their agency and what alarms they want to raise or not,” he continued. “They do great work in Gaza, and they are important to helping get the humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza. And we’re grateful for that work that they’re doing very much in harm’s way. I will let them speak to whatever concerns they have over Hamas’ activities and the degree to which that they feel obligated to speak out or not.” — Washington Examiner
Not to be outdone, AOC doubled down on their defense, just this week.
Cutting off support to @UNRWA – the primary source of humanitarian aid to 2 million+ Gazans – is unacceptable.
Among an organization of 13,000 UN aid workers, risking the starvation of millions over grave allegations of 12 is indefensible.
The US should restore aid immediately.

The next time she throws around words like ‘insurrection’ or ‘racist’ or ‘occupier’ keep in mind that she has been defending the work of actual genocidal terrorists whose stated aim is the wholesale slaughter of Jews, not just locally, but around the world. The original Charter of Hamas specifically invokes that controversial passage from the Koran about murdering every Jewish person on the planet.
But it’s a charity that does good work, she assures us with only ‘twelve’ bad actors. And she wants Americans to keep being the primary funding source for that ‘good work’ they do.
Riiight. Remember when she told us that BLM was an important social justice group that was entirely on the up-and-up, too? Remind me… what ‘good work’ have they been up to lately?
There’s a very good reason Trump stopped sending them money when he was President… he didn’t want American taxpayers paying terrorists to kill civilians.
According to evidence brought forward to Congress by UN Watch’s Hillel Nuer hat’s exactly what we have been doing. Not just ‘twelve’ offenders, either. There are thousands of people either directly involved with terror activities, or with a close family member involved.
The reason other countries have suspended support for UNWRA is simple: every dollar we send to that group only inflames the conflict between Israel and the Arabs living in Gaza.
Wouldn’t it be nice for an intrepid reporter to ask why Gaza’s muslim neighbors aren’t welcoming those refugees to live among them… at least long enough to see the war end and their homes rebuilt? Of course, we know the answer.
Tucked deep into the later paragraphs of an AP piece claiming that the real reason Israel’s neighbors were unwilling to take in Palestinian refugees was a suspicion that Israel would refuse to let them return was this little gem. (Emphasis added)
At the same time, Egypt says a mass exodus from Gaza would bring Hamas or other Palestinian militants onto its soil. That might be destabilizing in Sinai, where Egypt’s military fought for years against Islamic militants and at one point accused Hamas of backing them.
Egypt has backed Israel’s blockade of Gaza since Hamas took over in the territory in 2007, tightly controlling the entry of materials and the passage of civilians back and forth. It also destroyed the network of tunnels under the border that Hamas and other Palestinians used to smuggle goods into Gaza.
With the Sinai insurgency largely put down, “Cairo does not want to have a new security problem on its hands in this problematic region,” Fabiani said.
El-Sissi warned of an even more destabilizing scenario: the wrecking of Egypt and Israel’s 1979 peace deal. He said that with the presence of Palestinian militants, Sinai “would become a base for attacks on Israel. Israel would have the right to defend itself … and would strike Egyptian territory.” — AP
Will AOC add Egypt to the list of ‘evil oppressors’? Or will she finally admit that she’s got a nastly little anti-American habit of cheering for the bad guys.
